چکیده

International EMC standards describe the measurement environment (setup, equipment, frequencies) and applicable limits for the electromagnetic emission testing of lighting equipment, including compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs). These standards consider the compact fluorescent lamp a ‘black box’. In order to better understand the emissions from this type of light source, the operation of the equipment needs to be analyzed not just at system, but also at component level. The paper presented the compact fluorescent lamps’ operation from electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) point of view, examined their operation theoretically and experimentally, analyzed the arc discharge from electromagnetic emission point of view. The electric and magnetic field emission originated from the plasma of the CFL was shown. The independent sources of emission within the system were identified. Keywords—Arc discharge, compact fluorescent lamps, effect of plasma, electric field, electromagnetic compatibility, electromagnetic radiation, EMC, EMI magnetic field, radiated disturbances, radiofrequency emission Corresponding author: Gabor Schmidt e-mail address: [email protected] Received; August 4, 2010 84 International Journal of Plasma Environmental Science & Technology, Vol.5, No.1, MARCH 2011

Electromagnetic Fields Radiated by Fluorescent and Compact Fluorescent Lamps

In the scope of the monIT Project, it was found that fluorescent and compact fluorescent lamps are also important sources of radiation. More than increasing EMF levels in a particular environment, the radiation from ballasts may cause electronic interference with other devices. Two different lamps are analysed, in terms of both their radiated frequency spectrum and their compliance with Europea...

Light Spectrum of Compact Fluorescent Lamps in Iranian Market and Possibility of Hydroxyl Radical Production

Background and purpose: Despite growing use of energy-saving lamps or compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), there are concerns about ultraviolet radiation in their output. In this study, the output of CFLs available in Iranian market in the range of infrared, visible, and ultraviolet were measured and the possibility of hydroxyl radical production by their radiation was evaluated. Materials and me...

مطالعه پرتوهای فرابنفش انتشار یافته از لامپ‏های فلورسنت فشرده متداول

Background and aims: Compact fluorescent lamps(CFLs) are low-pressure mercury vapor lamps, which are more useful than other light sources. Some studies reported the leakage of UV radiation from CFLs. The aim of this study was measuring of ultraviolet radiation from universal compact fluorescent lamps in Iran. Methods: In this study, measuring of UV radiation of 54 bulb compact fluorescent lamps...

ارزیابی میدان‌های الکتریکی و مغناطیسی لامپ‌های کم مصرف از نوع فلورسنت فشرده از دیدگاه حفاظت پرتوی

The technology used in energy-saving compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), provides a quarter of the energy consumption of incandescent lamps to produce equivalent light energy while CLFs shelf life is up to ten times of incandescent lamps. So the incandescent lamps in homes and workplaces are replaced with CFLs. Due to the use of ballast in the structure of CFLs, electric and magnetic fields are g...
